The Kapisanang Kimika ng Pilipinas – Southern Tagalog Chapter (KKP-ST), in coordination with the Institute of Chemistry, CAS, UPLB and De La Salle Lipa Integrated School, conducted a training workshop for high school chemistry teachers last November 30, 2013 at De La Salle Lipa. 

This activity was entitled “Empowering High School Chemistry Teachers towards K-12 Curriculum”.  It aimed to provide assistance to schools and universities with regards to equipping teachers with necessary skills and innovative ideas in chemistry for the upcoming implementation of Grades 11 and 12 of the K -12 curriculum.  This was participated in by 74 high school chemistry teachers from 23 schools of Batangas.

The morning session included three lectures on teaching strategies: Molecular Geometry, Thermochemistry: Heat Effects and Calorimetry and  Chementertainment: Chemistry in the Movie.
The afternoon sessions were cost-effective laboratory activities conducted in parallel. Chromatography: Theory and Simple Laboratory Exercises, Microscale Experiments in General Chemistry  and Corrosion of Iron.

The training workshop was a fruitful experience for all of the participants.  The organizers hoped that the participants shall apply what they have learned from the activity so as to enhance their high school chemistry curriculum.
