Via landslide victory, the team from Institute of Chemistry (IC) representing UPLB reclaims the crown in the 2018 PACSiklaban at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) Nurse’s Home Social Hall, Ermita Manila, eighth of April.

PACSiklaban is an annual national inter-collegiate chemistry quiz contest sponsored by the Philippine Association of Chemistry Students, (PACS) Inc. as part of their National Chemistry Students’ Congress (NCSC).

The team consists of junior and senior BS Chemistry and BS Agricultural Chemistry students: Andrew Exequiel S. Tabilog (team captain), Melvin A. Castrosanto, Joshua P. Gemperoso, Cesar G. Quizon, Jr., Rollan Paul P. Parakikay, Kim Leonard C. Bolandos, and Christian John G. Cordero.

Dr. Myrna S. Rodriguez, Associate Professor at the Institute of Chemistry, officially retired last May 13, after serving the university as administrator and faculty member for 39 years. Her duties as CAS Associate Dean will end with the term of the incumbent Dean.

Nurturing the minds of future chemists, the Institute of Chemistry (IC) has Mrs. Maribel I. Menguito around to help realize its mission. She is this year's CAS Outstanding Administrative Personnel. Tita Mabs, as she is fondly called, has risen from the ranks of clerk-typist to Clerk III, administrative assistant, records officer up to her current position as administrative officer all through her 31 years’ employment in the institute.

UPLB awaits the rise of a complete facility to house research/instrumentation laboratories and classrooms devoted to nanoscience, soon to be constructed beside the Physical Science (PhySci) building. The campus previewed this upcoming project with the soft opening of a nanotechnology hub at the second floor of PhySci Wing A.
