On Friday, March 23, 2012, the Institute of Chemistry (IC), Institute of Biological Sciences (IBS) and Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Phys-ics (IMSP) jointly celebrated their 29th anniversaries as National Centers of Excellence. A program entitled ―NCOE Evolution: Rising to the Challenges of the K-12 Revolution‖ was held at the CAS Auditorium.

The IBS Chorale gave the doxology and led the singing of the National Anthem. Dr. Myrna S. Rodriguez, CAS Associate Dean, welcomed the faculty, students and friends of the college, followed by an inspirational message from no less than UPLB Chancellor, Dr. Rex Victor O. Cruz. High-lights of the nearly three-decade journey of the three Institutes as NCOEs were shown through audio-visual presentations. Two notable keynote speakers graced the event: Dr. Ma. Cristina D. Padolina, UPLB Professor Emeritus and Centro Escolar University President and member of the CHED Technical Working Group on Curriculum, Science; and Dr. Lorna Dig Dino, OIC Regional Director of DepEd CALABARZON. Dr. Maribel D. Sese and Prof. Jaderick P. Pabico moderated the open forum held after the talk, where questions and concerns from the UPLB community were expressed as the country braces itself for the implementation of the K-12 curriculum when the school year opens in June 2012. Token plaques were awarded to the speakers, followed by an intermission number from talented IC and IMSP faculty. The IBS Director, Dr. Damasa M. Macandog, gave the closing remarks, thanking everyone’s support to the successful event. The program concluded with the singing of the college hymn, Sulong CAS, led by the IBS Chorale.
